Boscloner

Was reading on the DEF CON 24 website,  where I found this little gem.  https://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-24/d … html#Bosco

A automatic rfid cloner, based on rfidtastic schematics but also with bluetooth.   It had a kickstarter but it seem to have failed.
More googleing got me this:

Some schematics,  but the interesting part is the name PM3/boscloner.

Haven't heard any of this gadget before on this site,

Re: Boscloner

He did the presentation at Defcon or just advertise there his project there Iceman? I am not an electronic man, but from the layout it is not anything more then my PM3 board, at least he has the ethic to add the name J Westhues on the PCB's back and call it a PM3/Boxcloner R1.0

So sad ... Is it wrong with me or What is wrong with people nowadays when so talented why no shame no ethic

Re: Boscloner

I don't know since DEFCON24 is due in August.

Lets see where the open source part for the project ends up. I haven't found it yet. On the kickstarter page it says its an open source project.  I never heard of it before but if its gonna be on DEFCON I'm pretty sure they all gonna end up in this forum asking questions and we don't know anything at all about it.

Re: Boscloner

This project got presented on DEFCON,  now with a webpage and instructions.  Still after looking at the source, I fail to find where they have their pm3 sourcecode version on that googledrive.

Re: Boscloner

This project if quit suspect to me... I don't really realize whats the benefit.
Effectivly this is a PM3 clone, with the same hardware base and the same drawbacks. After verifying the schematics I must say: This is a 1:1 copy of the PM3 schematics from 2010. So what's the benefit? Okay, theres a display and a BT interface. But this is on a additional shield. Why? The simple monochrom display can be driven by the PM3 MCU, I used this MCU (the X-version with Ethernet) by my self 10 Years ago and added a full-color display - theres no problem. Okay, some more? ... the BT interface. This is a ready-to-use module. This modules are cheap and widthly available in many flavors. This module can be connected to the debug-UART of the AT91SAM7. The only connected part on the PM3 schematic currently is a LED, this LED could be connected easily to another PIO pin, so you get the 3rd serial port from the MCU. The debug-UART can be used as like all other UARTs in this MCU, expect the fact it only supports 8 bit data transfers - but this is no problem, since it's the normal way to communicate on a serial link. By doing so you get a another communication port beside the USB port. Okay... some more? Yes, theres a SD-card interface. I didn't looked at the shield schematics, but I see 6 brakeout-pins on the shield board. The only possible way: The card is SPI driven. So you can get the same results by connecting this card to the PM3 MCU SPI port. This works too, I did it alot in the past... (but this works not very well, since some cards do not support the SPI mode). Finaly, to manage the few external parts theres a kintetis MCU added, more powerful than the PM3 MCU itself... wtf!?

Over all there are parts added to control the board in a "mobile" way... fine... but where's the battery? Theres no battery connection, no charging circute , nothing. So you have to add a external power-bank. You can do the same with the normal PM3 (the Elechouse PM3 has lithium battery connector and a charging circute, I like to note here).

So the only "new" thing here is the shield board, a board that must not exist, you can add all the stuff to the main MCU...

Man, if you really want to enhance something: Change the main MCU to a newer Cortex type, rewrite the source to work with it, rework the analog part to archive a controlled impedance in the whole (HF) signal path and finaly add a more powerful FPGA to offload more signal decoding/encoding stuff to it.

And suddently theres a song in my mind...: "what is it good for......." smile
