LF PCB Antenna

All-

Jonathan Westhues has posted his source files for the PM3!  Included in the .zip is the layout for an LF PCB antenna in the EAGLE program.  I'm thinking of getting a few made and trying them out- has anyone else used this design?

I was wondering about the PCB antenna: has anyone tried it yet? I am a bit bored by my really ugly and fragile (but efficient) square LF antenna, and I'd like something a bit more robust...

I'd also like to have an antenna with a smaller form factor, specifically one that would be credit card size like the PM3. I'd like to have it mounted to the PM3 essentially, though I don't know if that will be a problem.

My goal is really just a portable, hand-held PM3.

Samy, you'll find some pictures on here from d18c7db where he made HF and LF antennas and attached them to the back of the PM3. 

I have my PM3 mounted in a plastic case, with the antennas attached to the outside of the case (though haven't attached the HF one yet).  My goal really was to have something semi-portable, and not to misplace another proxmark.

To make my solution portable (as you're aiming for), I would only have to have a independent power supply ,firmware capable of operating without a computer. If the switch was mounted off the PCB, or another switch externally mounted in parallel with the one on the PCB, that would also make things more useful.  My solution isn't small, but it's handheld.

I just bought an Altoids tin can, the PM3 fits swimmingly inside.

In fact, I can fit the PM3 and 3 1.5V AA batteries inside the Altoids can! Is that enough to power it or will I need four? And if it is enough, will I need resistors and all that good stuff in order for it to be a suitable power source and not harm the PM3?

Actually I can fit 5 AA batteries in there, some will just be perpendicular to each other.

Yes it was an ouch - I put it somewhere safe, and I'm not sure where that was. Potentially I threw it out by mistake. That one only cost a couple of hundred, but it replace it, it was a bit more expensive - couldn't get the 2nd via the same supplier.
