How to check the firmware on an out-of-the-box proxmark3

So many entries concerning firmware are qualified with stuff like "if you're running older firmware" or "most shipped boards come with this firmware..."

Can I get a quick rundown of how to see exactly what firmware my board is running before I start making any changes? I got it from a Chinese vendor that isn't all that responsive.

maybe we should add the "hw ver" to be run at startup of client.   or is that to make it too simple?

sh: hw: command not found

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

no,  not "sh hw"   Marshmellow wrote:  "hw ver"

All commands needs to be runned inside the PM3 client.
Start the client by:

cd client
./proxmark3 com3

if you run linux, 
"./proxmark3 /dev/ttyACM3"
