ProxMark3 on Windows 8.1

Hi I bought my pm3 over a year ago - only now have I got time to investigate...

Originally I had it working on XP (briefly) and Ubuntu.
I am trying now to install it onto a laptop with Windows 8.1.
I have followed the instructions found here: https://github.com/Proxmark/proxmark3/wiki/Windows.

After disabling the Driver signing verification, I updated the device driver so I could see  "ProxMark-3 RFID Instrument" under the "LibUSB-Win32 Devices" node.
I then followed the instructions to Update the Proxmark to the new CDC serial interface ( i.e. successfully flashing the BootROM).
This was a massive relief as I have been trying various other instructions and not succeeding with this step.
Unfortunately, this did not cause Windows to give it a COM port.

I then tried using the driver under:
…\pm3-bin-756 - lua branch\Windows Drivers\CDC (new serial interface).

This didn’t help, so I am still without a COM port.

After disconnecting the USB plug and pressing the button on the Proxmark, then reconnecting it, rather perversely, it decides now to give it a com port:

In Device Manager, under Ports(COM & LPT) ------ ProxMark3 (COM3)

which disappears as soon as I release the button.

I cannot seem to progress from here, I can’t go back to the previous drivers as Windows insists it has the best driver.

It is an original pm3 (just like the image on http://www.proxmark.org/) which is recognised by Windows and appears to still function correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

Thanks for the quick reply marshmellow - but I thought you needed the COM port number to be able to edit the scripts for the other flashing? I'll have a look in the morning, and try again.

Re: ProxMark3 on Windows 8.1

you have the com port while holding the button.

if you get a com port while holding the button but not when not then it indicates your firmware is mis-matched...  hold the button and flash all the firmware (While holding the button down the entire time...).

Re: ProxMark3 on Windows 8.1

Excellent! - the logic is impeccable.
I've re-flashed everything and it now holds COM3 port even with the  button released.

I've since used proxmark3.exe COM3 command to test the version, h/w and antenna - all looks good.

Thank you so much for your help!
