Hitting a Brick Wall at GO...

PROBLEM: I can't get any of the commands to work correctly on my PM3 board via PC.

I have the Prox GUI up and running in Windows Vista, and my PC is finding my newly delivered Proxmark3 board.  I'm running the 2009 compiled version of the Prox software suite currently available on the site.

As a simple example of my issue, when I run "tune" I get the following error:

> tune
#db# Measuring antenna characteristics, please wait.
unrecognized command 00000410

For reference, I have tested my PM3 card in standalone mode with LF antenna, and it reads and replays HID ProxII cards without a problem (including successful output to the Prox GUI terminal, as expected).

Also for reference, when I run "version" in Prox GUI, it returns the following:

> version
#db# Prox/RFID mark3 RFID instrument
#db# bootrom: svn 442 2010-06-04 05:42:52
#db# os: svn 442 2010-06-04 05:42:54
#db# FPGA image built on 2009/12/ 8 at  8: 3:54

I'm assuming that the "version" command polls the version of the PM3 itself, but I couldn't find documentation on the actual target (i.e. the board or the software on my PC...)

Any thoughts on what I'm fouling up, what I should check?  Thanks so much!

Re: Hitting a Brick Wall at GO...

Hi Magneto,

I just solve the same problem. The problem is that you are using a old version of prox.exe (05/09/2009), while the firmware loaded is the svn 422 (2010). Please download the proxmark3_win_bins_beta.zip from http://code.google.com/p/proxmark3/downloads and:

1) Install the USB driver correctly (from \proxmark_driver). Attention! During The driver update:
"Install from a list or specific location (Advanced )"->" Do not search. I will choose the driver to install" [1] -> "Have disk" ...
Make sure you select [1], and not "search for the best driver in These locations" Providing events after the path to the driver. It is NOT the Same and Will Not Otherwise work.

2) Use the "proxmark3.exe" in \bin to communicate with the board.

Good luck!!

Re: Hitting a Brick Wall at GO...

Thanks [rikmay].  I was starting to get discouraged, so I really appreciate the help!!  How did you figure out the solution?  It's always good to hear the fix, but even better to learn how I could have identified this myself.

For context for other users out there, I just bought a Proxmark III board from hackable-devices.org in November 2010.  I have yet to implement [rikmay]'s suggestions (I'll report back to this post to confirm that it is the fix), but this should help others out there who are equally confounded with the board they similarly acquired.

Re: Hitting a Brick Wall at GO...

Magneto: also I have bought a Proxmark III board from hackable-devices.org in November 2010. I had this same problem and I began to see the sources identifing that message was for a different answer, obviously added in a newer version...

I'm trying now to run the snoop command, which does not work because it gives me "blew circular buffer!"... I am working in compiling and uploading new firmware to the board (I have various problems on do that!...I will solve it ;-).

Of course this board is not for hardware and firmware beginners, but the support is complete and the potenciality is very bigger. Good Luck!!

You are running different versions of firmware and client.
Later versions of client use "hw tune" instead of "tune", so find a newer version of client or downgrade your PM3 firmware.

Regards.
